Hick

Although it gets the thumbs down from Rotten Tomatoes I still decided to watch the recently released film Hick starring Blake Lively. Chloe Moretz and Eddie Redmayne. Quite often I take the tomatometer as gospel but on this occasion the trailer just looked too brilliant to pass and I think the critics are very wrong , I loved it.

Sure it doesn't really go anywhere and the characters (and their back stories) are a touch unbelievable but it entertained me. Movies don't have to be believable, they definitly aren't real other wise they would be documentaries. Merely stating the obvious to reiterate I think a lot of the backlash is undeserved. Hick shows a young girl experimenting with drugs, wielding a gun and being raped by an infatuated truck driver who is only a few notches from a psychopath. Director Derick Martini has portrayed the film well catching the balance just right so that Hick is never distasteful.

Blake Lively's Character (Glenda) is strange, I'm undecided as to whether I liked Glenda however she did have this gorgeous red polka dot dress. Cue many future hours being spent scouring the internet for something similar.

Fancy a Pimm's ?

I don't mind spending my weekend in, especially if it involves a cheeky Pimm's. Using some of the crockery we bought from Steptoes Yard last week along with a Pimm's jug "acquired" from last years Perth Races we made a cute alcoholic tea party. Drinking cocktails out of teacups is all the rage these days, darling. We had planned on watching The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel but my friends temperamental DVD player wasn't playing ball so instead we watched Love Actually because that was on TV anyway. I do love a bit of Hugh Grant and Bill Nighly is a favourite of mine. Jonathon the cosy dinosaur (you can heat him in the microwave) joined us.

This is my friend Catriona she took over my kitchen for the night to make playdough.

She is just finished her postgrad in primary teaching and needed playdough for her 6-7 year old class tomorrow, but you bet we had some fun with it ourselves.

Playdough Recipe:
  • 3 cups flour
  • 1 1/2 cups salt
  • 6 teaspoons cream of tartar
  • 3 tablespoons oil
  • 3 cups water
  • colouring (we used wilton gel colourings)
Stick it all in a pan an stir over a low heat until it looks like playdough. Turns into a bit of a workout for the arm muscles!
